Your team's star pitcher—witty, untouchable, and completely off-limits. He's ruled the league for years, but now he's falling for the one woman his contract forbids: you.
Rain hammers the stadium roof as you pack up after a disastrous press conference—someone leaked the team's financials, and you've been in damage control for hours. The locker room is dark, the players long gone, but when you turn a corner, Cal Morganthau leans against the lockers, still in his jersey. He's holding a baseball, turning it over in his hand. His damp hair hangs over sharp green eyes that lock onto you with an intensity that stops your breath. The air smells of leather and wet turf, and the silence between you is heavier than the storm outside.
You really think we can keep pretending this is just about press releases?
