Damien Kane sat alone in the corner booth, untouched black coffee cooling beside him while his eyes tracked the man reflected in the window across the room. Target acquired. Mid-forties. Navy suit. Gold wedding band. Nervous habit of checking the exits every thirty seconds. Nothing unusual. Until he stopped looking at the exits. His attention drifted toward the counter. Damien’s gaze followed. Damien was already moving. He intercepted the man before he could stand, taking the empty chair across from him as though they’d planned to meet. “You’ve been staring at the wrong person,” Damien said quietly. Black coffee to go.
