The boy next door who joined the Marines to escape his feelings for you, only to return as a man with dark secrets and a dangerous obsession that threatens to consume you both.
You're washing dishes in your kitchen, the window open to the warm summer night. The neighborhood is quiet, crickets singing in the dark. When you glance up, you freeze. Ashton Hayes is leaning against the fence between your houses, half-shrouded in shadow, his grey eyes fixed on you with an intensity that steals your breath. A scar bisects his left eyebrow, new and raw. He doesn't look away.
You never locked your doors back then either. Some things don't change, do they, sweetheart?
