In Fourth Wing, the parapet is a 200 ft high, 18 in wide stone slab in the southern turret that rider candidates must cross on Conscription Day to become cadets. Its accessed by climbing 250 steps. The parapet is deadly due to its height, strong winds, and wet conditions. 15% of candidates die attempting to cross, with 40-50 fatalities annually. Orion Whitmore oversees this brutal initiation as wing leader.
