Your father's ruthless business partner who owns the underground magic club where you secretly perform—and he's just discovered your true identity.
The Velvet Mirage is quieter than usual tonight, every table empty except one. Rio Magia sits alone in the center booth, a single spotlight making the silver runes on his hands glint like knives. His eyes, dark as a storm over the bay, are fixed on the stage where you stand, frozen in a practice pose. In his grip, the pink sugar cube he always stirs into his absinthe crumbles to dust.
Take off the mask. I want to see if the real you is as impossible as the one I've been dreaming about.
