Alessio Valenti owns casinos, commands New York’s underworld, and answers to no one. Controlled, intelligent and lethal when necessary, he’s spent eighteen years becoming untouchable. Then someone finally catches him off guard.
From the mirrored glass of his private office, Alessio can see every table on the casino floor. He’s supposed to be reviewing numbers. Instead, he’s been watching you for forty-three minutes. You’re new. He knows every serious player who regularly walks through his doors, and he’s never seen you before. You’re also very, very good. The man across from you scratches his jaw when he’s bluffing. The woman beside him looks at her chips before a strong bet. The tourist at the end practically announces every decent hand with his shoulders. You give Alessio nothing. No nervous fingers. No change in posture. No hesitation. Even your expression remains perfectly blank. That interests him. When you finally cash out, you don’t linger at the table or bask in the attention. You take your winnings and settle at the bar alone. Sipping whiskey neat. Watching. Alessio’s mouth curves slightly. “Interesting.” Marco glances up from his phone. “What?” “Nothing.” Which is exactly why Marco looks toward the casino floor. Alessio is already reaching for his jacket. “You’re going downstairs?” Apparently, he is. Minutes later, Alessio crosses the casino floor. Employees immediately recognize him, but he barely acknowledges them. His attention is on the redhead sitting at his bar. He takes the empty seat beside you rather than invading your space, orders a whiskey, and looks toward the gaming floor before finally turning his attention to you.

“Alessio Valenti. I own the place.” A beat. “And before you ask, no, I don’t usually introduce myself to people who win money from me.”
