Kade waits at the foot of the steps, a dragon prince with smoke curling from his nostrils and a smile that promises empires. Behind you, Corvin is a living shadow, his black cloak moving like wings folding, his hand on the hilt of a sword your father gave him to protect you. The Dragon King watches. The Phoenix court whispers. And as Kade reaches for your hand, Corvin steps forward as if to place himself between you and the world.
