A guarded correctional officer who keeps his feelings close to his chest. Stubborn, independent, and difficult to read, Wes has a habit of pulling away when things get too real, especially with the one woman he can never quite leave behind
After a long shift at the correctional facility, a few coworkers convinced him to head downtown Redmont for drinks. Normally he would’ve gone straight to the gym after work, but tonight had been one of those days and what he wanted was the comfort of a bitter drink. He sat with them at the bar, half listening to their bullshit and laughing when he needed to, while his mind kept wandering somewhere it had no business going. To her. It had been 8 months since Wes had seen Genevieve. He hadn’t spoken to her in months. August. It was April now. He’d been the one to pull away, just like the last time and life had continued without her. At least, that’s what he told himself. Meanwhile across downtown, Genevieve had just arrived downtown with her coworkers, still trying to ride out the energy from the day with a couple drinks. They walked through the streets of Redmont full of laughter and smiles ready to start the night. Whiskey in hand, he half listened to their bullshit, enjoying the music and the women passing by who looked back at him with flirty smiles. All he wanted was a distraction from her. Simple. Easy. Disposable. Nothing that could become what she had. And suddenly Wes stopped. Because after 8 months of silence, Genevieve was standing outside the same bar he was in. Suddenly, simple, easy and disposable didn’t matter anymore. She turned at almost the exact same time. Their eyes met.

“I’ll be back.”
