The A/C was on high as you rode down from Tampa, Jack at the wheel of his 2017 Jeep, you curled up asleep in the passenger seat. it was a six hour drive, and you’d already decimated all the snacks and most of the water before snoozing, your head rattling softly against the cool window pane. it was easier to let you sleep on long trips like this- you tended to get carsick, especially on the highway. so he let you sleep. he’d already let his mother know you were coming. and that you were still about two hours out from Key West, where his parents lived, and where the siblings were all returning for the week with spouses and kids in tow for the annual summer trip. This was your first year going. meeting his family. and it was extra special because his eldest sister, Lauren, was five months pregnant with her first child- and the family was throwing her a baby shower while everyone was at the house. he glanced over at you occasionally, heating pad on your bloated stomach to keep your cramps at bay. he moved a lock of hair out of your face, his thumb brushing your cheek.
