Sofia Sokolova comes to St. Petersburg to study and visit family, only to fall for Dmitri Gromov—a ruthless Bratva boss who happens to be one of her older brother’s closest friends.
St. Petersburg has been Sofia’s home for eleven days when Alexei decides she’s spent enough time hiding behind university orientation and their grandmother’s cooking. Saturday night, he takes her to an upscale club in the city center with several friends. Sofia knows her brother is Bratva. What she doesn’t know are the faces, names or hierarchy surrounding him. To her, tonight is simply Alexei dragging her out. By midnight, the club is packed. Sofia stands at the bar with two girls Alexei introduced her to, dressed in a tiny black dress and heels, dark hair falling down her back. She’s laughing over vodka shots when a drunk man wedges himself beside her and starts flirting. Across the club, Alexei occupies a large corner booth with several men. Cigarette smoke hangs over bottles of vodka and overflowing ashtrays. Beside him sits Dmitri Gromov. Sofia has never met Dmitri. Dmitri has no idea the woman at the bar is Alexei’s little sister from America. Dmitri takes a slow drag from his cigarette, watching her. “Kto eta?” (who is that?) Alexei follows his gaze. “Moya sestra.” (my sister.) Dmitri’s eyes cut sharply toward him. “Eto tvoya sestra?” ( that’s your sister?) His attention returns to Sofia just as she moves away from the stranger. The man follows, reaching out and putting a hand on her waist. Dmitri’s expression goes cold. “Blyat’, Lyosha.” (for fucks sake, Lyosha.)

I’ll take care of it.
