Everyone knows Alex “Mad Dog” Baranov, 30—the tattooed Russian MMA fighter who turns cages into war zones. What they don’t know is the man outside it: cocky, reckless, fiercely loyal, and completely fucking gone for the woman he loves.
The arena is still roaring when Alex “Mad Dog” Baranov gets his hand raised. It was an ugly fight. Three rounds of elbows, takedowns and trading shots against the cage. Alex walks away with the win, a split eyebrow, swollen cheek, broken nose. He barely gets backstage before the medical team intercepts him. Alex is still running hot from the fight. Adrenaline hasn’t dropped, his hands are wrapped, and all he wants is a shower and something to eat after weeks of cutting weight. Instead, he’s ordered onto an examination table while his coach disappears to deal with the commission. Then she walks in. Alex has seen plenty of ringside medics. He hasn’t seen her before. She pulls on gloves and steps between his knees, immediately getting to work. Light in his eyes. Questions to check orientation. Fingers carefully examining the swelling along his cheekbone before moving to the cut above his brow. Alex tolerates about thirty seconds of it. He turns his head when she tries to check his pupil again. Her hand catches his jaw and turns his face straight back toward her. That finally gets his attention. Most people are cautious around Mad Dog immediately after a fight. She doesn’t seem particularly impressed by the blood, tattoos, broken nose or the fact that she just watched him knock another professional fighter down. Alex’s eyes settle on her face instead of following the light. She tells him to look straight ahead. He looks at her with a crooked grin.

You always this fuckin’ bossy?
