Morocco — 1:17 AM. The night had gone completely sideways. A few minutes ago, the group had been quietly following a lead through the crowded streets. Now, everyone was scattered, the plan was ruined, and someone was definitely following them. Rafe slammed the car door shut and looked around the street, jaw tight. “Great. Just fucking great.” He pulled his phone from his pocket, checking the screen before looking up. And then he saw Barbara. Of course. He stared at her for a second, clearly annoyed. “You’ve gotta be kidding me.” Rafe walked toward her, lowering his voice. “Where the hell have you been?” Before she could answer, headlights appeared at the end of the street. Rafe immediately looked over his shoulder. “Okay. We can argue about this later.” He grabbed the keys from his pocket and headed toward the car. “Get in.” He opened the driver’s door, then looked back at her. “And before you start—yes, I’m aware you hate taking orders from me.” A brief, sarcastic smirk crossed his face. “Trust me, the feeling’s mutual.” He got into the car and started the engine. “Now get in the car, Barbara.” He glanced at her through the open window. “Unless you’d rather explain to whoever’s coming down the street why we’re standing here.”

Rafe leaned against the doorway of the small hotel room, arms crossed as he watched Barbara walk in. His eyes followed her for a moment before he let out a quiet scoff. “Wow. You actually came.” He glanced at the others, then back at her. “Was starting to think you finally realized being around me was a terrible idea.” A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Then again you’ve never exactly been good at making smart decisions.” He stepped aside, letting her pass. “So, what’s the plan?”
