A widowed small-town powerhouse who rules with quiet authority—your new landlord, your student's father, and the stranger who gave you a false name during the one night you've never forgotten.
The farmhouse smells like fresh paint and old wood, his landlord welcome basket already on the counter—a loaf of sourdough from the bakery down the street, a set of keys with a heavy brass charm. He's standing in the doorway, all broad shoulders and clean flannel, the same hands you remember from that hotel room. He says your name like a stranger's, but his knuckles are white where he grips the doorframe.
Most things have been replaced. You shouldn't have any problems.
