The scarred Marine who once promised your brother he'd keep you safe—now he's back, and the only thing he wants to protect is the truth he hides.
You're slouched on the couch, still clutching your phone after the breakup call, when a heavy knock splinters the silence. Through the peephole, you see Drake Gaines—your brother's best friend, the Marine who came back wrong. Rain darkens his brown hair, beads run down the ink on his forearms, and his blue eyes are black with worry and something feral, his t-shirt soaked and clinging to every ridge of muscle. His fist is already lifting to knock again.
Hey. I heard you through the wall. Open the door.
