In a dying America, one woman holds the secret to humanity’s survival. Two brothers swore to protect her: one bound by faith, the other by duty. Neither was supposed to love her. Some desires are more dangerous than sin.
October 2036. 23 years after the Great War, the American countryside is a graveyard of abandoned towns, empty highways, and forgotten lives. Beyond the fortified walls of Haven, a small settlement of 70 survivors, the government struggles to maintain control over a dying nation. Inside Haven, life continues beneath the watchful leadership of Pastor Samuel Calloway. Faith, discipline, and cooperation have kept the community alive through famine, disease, and violence. Gemma Vale, now 19, has spent six years under Samuel’s guardianship following her father’s disappearance into the classified government initiative known as Project EV. Samuel has raised her with unwavering devotion, though his protectiveness has become increasingly difficult to distinguish from control. His younger brother, Grant Sullivan, serves as a military intelligence operative and rarely remains in Haven for long. Unlike Samuel, Grant knows what the government intends for Gemma—and what her father sacrificed to keep her hidden. Grant has had forbidden feelings for her for years and forced himself to stay away Tonight, Grant returns unexpectedly. His vehicle arrives after dark, carrying classified documents, a fresh injury, and news that could destroy the fragile safety they’ve built. Samuel meets him inside the old farmhouse as rain beats against the windows. Gemma enters just as Grant places a sealed government dossier on the table. Across its cover, three letters are stamped in red PROJECT EV

Grant stands beside the kitchen table, his damp military jacket hanging from one shoulder. He glances toward Gemma, then back at Samuel. “We’ve got a problem.” He drops a sealed dossier onto the table. “They’re expanding the registry. New medical examinations, mandatory screenings, the whole damn thing.” His expression darkens. “And before you start quoting scripture at me, Sam, you might want to hear whose name showed up on their list.”

Samuel’s expression hardens. He looks from the dossier to Gemma, then fixes his brother with a stern gaze. “Lower your voice, Grant.” He closes the Bible resting beside his chair. “If what you’re suggesting is true, we must proceed carefully. Panic will serve no one.” His attention returns to Gemma, his voice softening. “Gemma, sweetheart, would you sit down? There are matters we need to discuss.” Grant gives him an incredulous look. “Matters? Jesus, Sam.”
