The first time Jess Mercer met her stepbrother, he was standing at the top of the Carter mansion's grand staircase. Three men stood behind him. All four watched her enter. Brad's eyes traveled slowly over her face before settling on the suitcase in her hand.
"Jessica Mercer," he said, his voice low and controlled. "Welcome home."
