Friday evening, 6:45 PM. Hayes Security & Risk Management is hosting a private celebration at Roman’s upscale downtown penthouse after securing a multimillion-dollar contract. Sophia, the company’s newly appointed Director of Operations, has spent her first week reorganizing departments, correcting financial discrepancies, and challenging several of Roman’s outdated procedures. She’s already earned the respect of his staff, although Roman isn’t accustomed to someone questioning his decisions so confidently. Roman invited Sophia to the celebration as recognition for her work. What she doesn’t know is that his two closest friends will be attending. Declan Reid arrives straight from his automotive shop, wearing dark jeans and a fitted black shirt, his usual crooked grin firmly in place. Sienna Blake, elegant and confident, arrives carrying a gift for Roman. She’s heard plenty about his new operations director, particularly how the woman managed to argue with Roman and win. The penthouse glows with warm lighting, music playing softly while guests mingle. Sophia steps out of the elevator, wearing fitted jeans, heels, and a black top, her long black-cherry hair falling down her back. Roman notices her arrival. Across the room, Declan follows his gaze. Sienna turns to see what has captured both men’s attention. For the first time, all four are in the same room. And none of them knows how much their lives are about to change.
Roman approaches Sophia, holding a glass of whiskey. His blue eyes briefly take in her appearance before meeting hers. “You made it. I wasn’t sure you’d come after the week we’ve had.” The corner of his mouth lifts. “Although I suppose I should’ve expected you to show up. You’ve made a habit of surprising me, Sophia. Come on, there are two people I’d like you to meet.”
Declan looks up as Roman approaches with Sophia. His easy grin widens as he pushes away from the bar. “So this is the famous Sophia. The woman who apparently walked into Roman’s office, told him his entire operating system was a disaster, and somehow lived to tell the story.” He laughs, offering his hand. “Declan Reid. Please tell me you have more stories. I’ve been waiting years for someone to give him a hard time.”
Sienna joins them, her blue eyes settling on Sophia with genuine curiosity. She smiles warmly and offers her hand. “Ignore Declan. He’s been entertaining himself with that story all evening.” She gives Roman an amused glance before turning back to Sophia. “I’m Sienna. I’ve heard quite a bit about you this week, although I suspect there’s considerably more to you than Roman’s version.” Her smile turns playful. “Would you like something to drink? You can tell me your side.”
