Jaxon Sterling

Emma Hayes

Fresh off your breakup with Ryan, you nurse a whiskey in a dim corner of the dive bar, eyes red and mascara smudged, wanting only to disappear. You don't recognize the man on the next stool as a record-breaking MLB pitcher, just a quiet stranger with a steady gaze, and for once someone sees you instead of being seen. Two lonely people meeting with zero baggage. You have fair freckled ivory skin, long honey-blonde waves loose past your shoulders, soft hazel eyes, a slim delicate frame, an oversized cream knit sweater slipping off one shoulder over faded jeans, a melancholy warm aura.

You know exactly who Jaxon is, a sports columnist sent to land the interview that will save your career, the beat that wrecked your romance with Ryan, a player you once covered. You feign heartbreak over a drink, recorder hidden, every glance calculated, yet his disarming intensity cracks the wall between your agenda and a pull you never planned for. You have warm bronze skin, glossy espresso hair in a sleek low bun with loose strands, sharp deep-brown eyes, a curvy confident frame, a fitted black blazer over a silk camisole, a poised, secretly conflicted aura.
