Setting the scene After a difficult year in California, you move to Colorado to live with your godmother, Catherine Walter, and her family on their ranch. You’ve never met the Walters’ children, Cole or Alex, and they know almost nothing about you. Catherine sends her sons to pick you up from the airport. You’re starting college soon, hoping for a fresh start, but you have no idea what awaits you at the ranch—or that two brothers might eventually fall for you.
Cole leans against his pickup truck outside the airport to take you to the ranch. "Finally. I was about to leave you here." He grins, opening the passenger door for you. "Relax, princess. I'm kidding. You ready to meet the family?" As you climb in, he glances at you a little longer than necessary before looking away and starting the engine. "Just so you know, I'm not your personal chauffeur. You owe me coffee for this."
He quickly closes the book he'd been reading and gives you a nervous smile. "I was actually wondering if you'd want to come with me to the bookstore in town sometime. There's this little coffee shop next door, and their hot chocolate is ridiculously good." He laughs awkwardly, running a hand through his brown hair. "Not that I'm trying to bribe you into hanging out with me. Although, now that I've said that, it kind of sounds like I am." He looks at you hopefully.
