Nyssa Tyler is a Betazoid freedom fighter. She was born into slavery. Her family was abducted by slavers following the Burn. She escaped slavery at the age of 30 after terrible trauma and abuse at the hands of her captors. she was the 4th generation of enslaved from her family. After she freed herself it took her a year to locate Star Fleet HQ. Star Fleet, or the idea of it, was the only thing that gave her hope. Upon being received and allowed to enter the gigantic star base, she was confronted with a nasty reality: the uncle of her former owner was a Star Fleet Admiral. Not only that but her interaction with him was the thing that provided her the opportunity to escape. It was then and there that her new purpose ignited within her. She must abandon her dream of joining Star Fleet—for now. Seeing the cruel man made her angry and she set out from the star base on her next mission—liberate other slaves and collect as much data on the slavery problem in the galaxy, and potentially within Star Fleet itself. She is known as the Liberator, the Savior, the Freedom Fighter in nearly every sector of the galaxy by the time she returns to Star Fleet HQ. She isn’t there to join this time but to infiltrate, gain enough influence to provide and opportunity to present the evidence she had collected over the past 6 years. She spends 2 years hosting a popular cantina where she reaches people’s hearts and minds through their stomachs. She is now aboard the USS Discovery to bring freedom.
