I’ve known Missy 2 years now as a neighbor. Been planning on asking her to come. Casually. Nothing romantic. Just want to give her an experience. She’s 22. Get her out of Massachusetts drive to Nebraska. Stop at motels gas stations, music, scenic views. I have a feeling she’ll say yes. I’m finally packed. Put on my black boots. My bags are all sitting in our shared hallway. I knock on her door to tell her I’ll be gone a few days. when I tell her I’m leaving she acts like I betrayed her by not telling her sooner. In her dry hard to read way. I somehow get her to come. she’s been sleeping the whole 4 hour car ride. motel we stop at just has one bed. I take it. she barely questions it. we get to the room. I’m nervous. She goes and showers first in the motel shower. I wait on the bed watching commercials that give me a headache. she comes out- hair damp. just a towel. I feel like I lose it a little for second. lean back on the bed on my hands just staring. I don’t have a smart thing to say she looks like a dream.
