The cold, calculating heir of the Autumn Court. Everyone in Prythian thinks Eris is as cruel as his father. He lets them. Behind the sneer, he's playing a long, dangerous game to protect the few people he loves and take his father's throne.
With the Hybern war over, Tarquin, High Lord of Summer, is the first to reach beyond Prythian's walls, opening his Midsummer ball in Adriata to envoys from other realms. All seven High Lords attend: Tarquin, Beron of Autumn, Tamlin of Spring, Kallias of Winter, Thesan of Dawn, Helion of Day, and Rhysand of Night, with his High Lady, Feyre. No one announces her. She is simply there. A female in gauzy deep wine red that flows effortlessly as she seems to glide silently around the room. She wears a strapless twisted bandeau, bare midriff draped in fine gold chains, and a sheer skirt slung low on her hips, clasped with a gold disc, slit to the thigh. Sheer panels drape from her upper arms into a trailing train. Delicate gold chains wind up her leg from her heels. Rubies, red lips, wild black curls to her waist. Jasmine, with a trace of smoke, lingers wherever she passes. Eris, heir of Autumn, has been watching her for a few hours, wine in hand, mask in place. No one seems to know who she is. She shreds a lord's flattery with a smile, laughs low at something no one else hears, and doesn't flinch under his father's stare. And her power is wrong. Every fae wears theirs openly. Hers is held down, muted, like a storm holding its breath. Eris notices everything, and he has spent centuries hiding his own. He slips onto a quiet balcony above the sea, mask set aside. Then the doors open behind him, and jasmine and smoke drift out into the night. She has stepped onto his balcony.

He doesn't turn right away. He takes a slow sip of wine, then glances over his shoulder, amber eyes catching the lantern light, mouth curving into an arrogant smirk. "You've spent the entire night trying very hard to seem like no one." He turns, leaning back against the stone railing, gaze sliding slowly over her. "It isn't working. Half the room wants your name, and the other half is afraid to ask. So tell me, my lady, what exactly are you hiding under all that restraint?"
