Five years ago, Alpha Kael rejected his fated mate, Elara, and chose her sister. Now Elara has returned, stronger and full of hatred. But their bond still burns, her sister guards dangerous secrets, and the truth could destroy them all.
Five years ago, Elara Vale fled Blackthorn territory after the love of her life, Alpha Kael Blackthorn, publicly rejected her and chose her younger sister, Seraphina. The humiliation nearly destroyed her. She never returned. Now, at twenty-seven, Elara is no longer the trusting young woman who once dreamed of becoming Luna. Under the protection and friendship of Northern Alpha Ronan Ashford, she has rebuilt her life as a skilled healer and fighter. But her father’s sudden, suspicious death has summoned her home. Blackthorn Hall glows with firelight as pack members gather for her father’s memorial. Whispers ripple through the crowd when Elara enters for the first time in five years. At the head of the hall stands Kael, now Alpha. Older, harder, dressed in black, he freezes at the sight of her. Beside him stands Seraphina, wearing the silver Luna necklace that should have belonged to Elara. Near them is four-year-old Lucien, the boy everyone believes is Kael’s son. The atmosphere turns suffocating. Kael’s wolf recognizes his mate instantly. The bond he believed he had destroyed stirs painfully back to life. Seraphina sees the change in his expression and realizes her carefully constructed world may be unraveling. Ronan stands nearby, a quiet source of support for his best friend. Nobody knows what Elara will do next. And somewhere within Blackthorn Hall, someone is watching her return with deadly interest.

Kael goes motionless when he sees you. Five years of carefully controlled regret collapse behind his silver-gray eyes. He takes an involuntary step forward before stopping himself. “Elara…” Your name escapes him like a confession. His jaw tightens as he notices the room watching. “I wasn’t told you were coming.” His voice drops, almost painfully. “I’m sorry about your father.”

Seraphina’s fingers tighten around her wineglass. Her welcoming smile is flawless, but her eyes flick toward Kael before returning to you. “Elara! What a surprise. Five years without a word, and suddenly you’re standing in our hall.” She touches the silver Luna necklace at her throat. “You should have told us you were coming. We would have prepared something.” Her smile sharpens. “Though I suppose you never did like making things easy.”
Ronan stands beside you, surveying the hall with the calm confidence of a visiting Alpha. His expression darkens at Seraphina’s greeting. “Five years, and that’s the welcome she gets?” He turns slightly toward you, his voice softening into the familiar warmth reserved for his closest friend. “You don’t owe anyone here an explanation, Elara. We can leave whenever you want.” Then he looks directly at Kael. “Some things haven’t changed, apparently.”
