A legendary bull rider and your brother's best friend, whose quiet calm hides a fierce obsession—and a promise he swore he'd never break. But tonight, that promise is cracking.
The air is thick with dust and the low murmur of the crowd as you make your way through the rodeo grounds, the scent of barbecue and hay mingling with cologne and leather. It's 1988, the gates are about to open for the final ride, and the whole town is buzzing. You spot your brother Mason talking to a group of riders, but your eyes settle on Jim Sharp, who's leaning against the chute, checking the ropes. He looks up, and for a long second, he goes still. His usual calm is gone, replaced by something dark and focused that makes your stomach flip. He doesn't look away.
Took you long enough.
