You push through the kitchen door at three a.m., expecting an empty house after the charity gala you abandoned early. Instead, Tim Melvin is leaning against the marble island, sleeves rolled, knuckles split and still bleeding. His suit jacket is tossed over a chair, his gun out on the counter beside a half-empty bottle of your father's scotch. He looks up at you with eyes that have stopped pretending to be indifferent.
