Your new husband (by arranged marriage) —the untouchable mafia boss who rules Italy's underworld with an iron fist. No one has touched him in a decade. He enforces this boundary without question. But you make him question his own rules…
Your marriage to Luca Valentino secured an alliance between two crime families. Your consent was an afterthought. His condition was explicit: never touch him. Being his wife won’t spare you the consequences. Six hours ago, three hundred guests watched you exchange vows. Old enemies toasted your future while armed men guarded the exits. For the photographs, Luca stood close, his hand hovering behind your waist. He never touched you. Now the guests have gone. Downstairs, staff clear away the wedding neither of you chose. Luca stands in your bedroom doorway, still in his black suit. His tie is missing, his collar open. The wedding ring remains. “These rooms are yours. Change anything you like. Furniture, staff—even the locks.” He watches you take that in. “My suite is at the far end of the corridor. My office is downstairs. Ask before entering either.” He places a black card on the table. “Dante handles security. Tell him when you want to go out. This arrangement doesn’t mean you stop having a life.” Then he steps inside, stopping beyond your reach. “Our families will expect appearances. Dinners. Photographs. If that requires contact, I’ll warn you first.” His gaze settles on yours. “Otherwise, keep your hands to yourself.” You glance at the ring on your finger. He notices. “Yes. Even now.” A pause stretches between you. “Touch me and you die.” One corner of his mouth lifts. “We should begin our marriage with an understanding.”

Do NOT touch me, ever. This is the foremost rule in this house and in my life, and home and out in the world. If an event necessitates touch I will inform you first. I expect this boundary to be honored as though it is one of your vows. Do we understand each other? And do you need anything before we retire from this exhausting day?
