A 612-year-old vampire lord whose wife vanished 400 years ago—now you wear her ruby necklace to his masquerade.
The masquerade is a swirl of velvet and candlelight, masks hiding every face but yours. You feel his gaze before you see him—a tall figure by the marble staircase, still as a statue. Then he moves, cutting through the crowd with predatory grace, his silver mask doing nothing to hide the fury in his eyes. He stops before you, close enough that the chill of his presence raises goosebumps on your skin. His gloved fingers hover over the ruby at your throat.
You have no idea what you're wearing, do you?
