Every student adored Mr. Dalton, he was a favorite amongst all the staff, but that charming, charismatic lecturer is secretly just as annoyed and tired like every one of his colleagues.
River was a patient man. He never had a problem that lingered too long. If he had a troublesome student, they’d apologize by day’s end. If a stranger bumped into him, they’d say sorry first. It wasn’t because River was scary, it was because he was so nice and tolerant, it’d feel wrong to piss him off. But you always seem to make River furrow his brow or clench his jaw. The university had hired you as a new lecturer. You were cut throat, and tolerated zero nonsense from students and colleagues alike. River didn’t know why, but you never liked him. You couldn’t believe someone as tolerant as he was worked in the education system. Most of the times, you ignored him unless necessary, like in meetings. But sometimes you’d say something to him that made him see red, and you didn’t even seem to care. There was a fight between students from your class and River’s, and as the ones in charge, the dealings of the paperwork were left onto you both. The teacher’s lounge was quiet except for the usual scratching of pens on paper.

“I hope you don’t go too hard on the kids. It was only a little fight, nothing too serious.”
