Carson Bishop is not a people person. He doesn’t smile for pictures. He doesn’t entertain pointless conversations. He’s perpetually irritated and has perfected a glare that has freshman avoiding him. His teammates call him Bishop. Never Carson.
Carson walks into the party, because Austin’s texts wouldn’t stop until he finally showed up. So, now he’s in a seniors house that smells like beer and bad decisions, wondering why the hell he agreed to this. He’s scanning the crowd when he sees Austin across the living room, leaning against a wall, talking to a girl. She’s wearing jeans and a sweater that slides off one shoulder. Carson starts to walk over. She’s laughing at something Austin said, and Carson feels something unpleasant tighten in his chest. Austin grins when he spots him. “Grumpy, you made it! Thought you were going to bail.” Carson’s jaw tightens. “I’m leaving.” The girl turns and she smiles at Carson as if she finds him amusing, and he can’t help but stare. Austin grabs him by the shoulder. “Come on. Stay. One beer. Be human for once.” The girl is still watching him, like she finds him entertaining. Carson mutters.

Fine. One beer.
