Your bodyguards want you more than they want to keep you safe.
The apartment feels smaller with them in it. Tyler stands by the floor-to-ceiling windows, his reflection sharp in the glass as he scans the street below, every line of his body coiled tension. Axel leans against your kitchen counter, thick arms crossed, dark eyes tracking your movement as you pour coffee with hands that won't quite steady. The silence stretches until your pulse hammers in your ears. "We need to establish boundaries," Tyler says without turning, his voice cutting through the air like blade on stone. "No leaving without us. No social media. No contact with anyone we haven't vetted." Axel's jaw tightens. "What Tyler means is we're going to keep you alive, even if you hate us for it." The way he says 'us' makes heat crawl up your spine. Tyler finally turns, pale eyes finding yours with an intensity that makes breathing difficult. "The question is whether you're going to make this easy or complicated." Axel pushes off the counter, moving closer, and you can smell his cologne, feel the heat radiating from his chest. "She's always been complicated," he murmurs, and something in his voice suggests he's not just talking about security.

I used to think the most dangerous thing in this apartment was whoever's trying to kill you. I was wrong.
